Iran reaffirms its good neighborliness policy with regional countries, including Qatar

TEHRAN - Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy of good neighborliness with countries in the region, including Qatar, following the end of US-backed Israeli aggression against the country.

Esmaeil Baghaei made the statement in a post on his X account on Wednesday, a day after the Israeli regime was forced to declare a unilateral ceasefire as part of an agreement with the US.

The cessation of Zionist hostilities came after 12 days, during which the regime carried out indiscriminate attacks, leading to the martyrdom of more than 600 Iranians.

In response, the Iranian armed forces carried out large-scale missile and drone attacks as part of Operation True Promise III on the occupied territories, targeting key military-industrial facilities.

A day before the ceasefire, Iran launched a series of missile strikes on the largest US military base in the region, in Qatar, in response to the American aggression against Iranian nuclear sites.

“Iran's missile strikes on the American base Al Udeid were carried out in exercise of the right of self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and in response to the US military aggression on June 22, 2025, against the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Iran,” Baghaei said.

“The defensive action should in no way be considered against the friendly and neighboring country, Qatar, and the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to its good and deep-rooted relations with that country.”

The spokesperson asserted that the Islamic Republic has always adhered to the principle of good neighborliness with Qatar and other neighboring countries and is determined not to allow the aggressive actions and evil policies of the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran to cause sedition and division between Iran and other regional countries.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also on Tuesday assured Doha that Tehran’s retaliatory airstrikes on the US airbase in Qatar were not aimed at the brotherly country of Qatar.

In a phone call with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the emir of Qatar, Pezeshkian reaffirmed his country’s commitment to constructive, friendly, and brotherly relations with Doha.

“I reached out to you at the earliest opportunity to convey that yesterday’s incident was merely a reaction to the direct and overt involvement of the United States in the Zionist regime’s aggression against Iranian territory,” Pezeshkian emphasized.

The Iranian president also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Qatari leader for his efforts to stop the war and for the support, solidarity, and cooperation with the Iranians. I ptv
