Hong Kong police say rioters push city to verge of dangerous situation

KONFRONTASI - Violent protests have pushed Hong Kong to the verge of a very dangerous situation; say officials a day after the city saw some of the fiercest clashes between rioters and security officers.

People took to the streets for the second consecutive day, on Sunday, as part of weeks-long protests, which initially erupted in mid-June in protest to a proposed extradition bill.

Myanmar police to probe allegations of abuse against Muslim Rohingyas

KONFRONTASI - Myanmar’s police are to conduct a “departmental enquiry” to determine whether law enforcement officers have committed human rights violations against the Muslim Rohingyas in the Buddhist-majority country.

“The departmental enquiry will be conducted ... to find out whether the police forces have committed illegal actions, including violations of human rights, during their area clearance operations,” the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a press release published on Saturday.

Police, anti-TPP protestors clash in Peru

KONFRONTASI - Police in Peru have clashed with demonstrators protesting in the capital Lima against the government’s plans to commit to a US-led free trade pact.

On Thursday, hundreds of people took to the streets to denounce the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a controversial US-led free trade pact signed by 12 countries.

The protest turned violent when angry demonstrators hurled Molotov cocktails at security forces who in turn responded with tear gas, sticks and shotguns.

Indonesia arrests Daesh-linked groups 'planning terror attacks'

KONFRONTASI - Police in Indonesia have arrested dozens of individuals linked to the Daesh Takfiri militant group who plotted to carry out terror attacks in the country.

National Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti said on Monday that 33 people were nabbed by the police anti-terror unit in the aftermath of last month’s deadly attacks by the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, which killed four civilians and four assailants.

US police arrest Trump supporter who wanted to bomb Muslims

KONFRONTASI - Investigators in the US state of California are seeking hate crime charges against a Donald Trump supporter for planning to attack American Muslims.

Police in the city of Richmond raided William Celli’s home on Sunday afternoon and arrested him after receiving calls that he was making explosives and plotting to attack Muslims.

UK police clash with anti-austerity protesters in London

KONFRONTASI - British police clash with anti-austerity protesters in central London as thousands turn out to express anger at Tories rise to majority rule with only 37 percent of the vote. 

As protests continued into Saturday evening, a Scotland Yard statement said five police officers were injured during what they referred to as an “unplanned” demonstration just a day into the new Conservative government.

FBI warned local police before Texas attack: FBI director

KONFRONTASI - The Federal Bureau of Investigation had warned local authorities in Garland, Texas before two gunmen attacked a contest for physical depictions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Sunday, FBI Director James Comey says.

The gunmen, Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi, opened fire outside a building where an anti-Islamic group, American Freedom Defense Initiative, was staging the provocative contest that would award $10,000 for the top depiction of the Prophet (PBUH).

Indonesia police detain ‘ISIL recruiters’

KONFRONTASI -  Police in Indonesia have detained five men who allegedly attempted to recruit people, including women and children, to join ISIL militants operating in Syria.

On Monday, an Indonesian national police spokesman said the five men were arrested in Jakarta for arranging for a group of 11 children, four women, and one man to enter Syria.

The group of 16 was detained in the Turkish border of town of Gaziantep.

10 die as gangsters ambush federal police in west Mexico

KONFRONTASI -  Ten people, including five police officers, have been killed in a surprise attack by gunmen from a criminal gang against a federal police convoy in Mexico’s western state of Jalisco along the Pacific coast.

The federal police said in a statement released on Friday that the attack was carried out overnight as the seven vehicles transporting paramilitary gendarmerie officers were on patrol in the city of Ocotlan, located about 471 kilometers (292 miles) west of the capital, Mexico City.

Myanmar police detain over 100 in student rally

KONFRONTASI - Police in Myanmar have arrested 127 protesters, including tens of students, after clashes took place between security forces and the demonstrators demanding educational reforms in the central town of Letpadan.

The arrests were made on Tuesday as baton-wielding police broke up a rally held by students in Letpadan.

A number of protesters were reportedly injured in the clashes.
