Langgar Larangan Masker, Puluhan Orang di Hong Kong Ditangkap

KONFRONTASI-Sedikitnya 77 orang ditangkap karena melanggar larangan memakai masker di tempat umum yang kini berlaku di Hong Kong. Larangan masker ini diberlakukan pemimpin Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, sejak akhir pekan lalu di tengah terus berlanjutnya unjuk rasa antipemerintah yang dinilai semakin anarkis.

KONFRONTASI -   Hong Kong bersiap akan meluasnya protes di momen peringatan Kemerdekaan China, Selasa (1/10). Aktivis mengumumkan rencana menggunakan momen itu untuk melanjutkan dorongan dalam reformasi demokrasi.

Pengibaran bendera China berhasil dilakukan tanpa insiden pada pukul 08.00 waktu setempat. Masyarakat tidak diundang dalam acara itu, hanya tamu VIP yang menghadiri upacara dan diminta berkumpul di Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center demi alasan keamanan.

Buntut Protes, Hong Kong Tarik RUU Ekstradisi

KONFRONTASI -   Pemimpin Hong Kong Carrie Lam menyatakan ia akan menarik rancangan undang-undang ekstradisi yang kontroversial, yang mengundang protes keras dalam beberapa bulan terakhir.

Usulan yang diajukan pada bulan April ini akan membuat tersangka perbuatan kriminal di Hong Kong bisa diekstradisi ke China daratan.

Bulan Juni lalu rancangan ini ditunda ketika Lam menyatakan rancangan itu "telah mati". Namun saat itu ia tidak sepenuhnya menarik RUU tersebut.

Polisi Hongkong: Jumlah Pelajar Hong Kong yang Ditangkap Meningkat

KONFRONTASI -   Polisi Hong Kong mengatakan bahwa jumlah pelajar yang ditangkap mencapai 29 persen dari hampir 1.600 orang yang ditahan dalam protes sejak Juni lalu dan mendesak kaum muda untuk memilih "jalan yang benar", sementara lebih banyak lagi demonstrasi besar kemungkinan akan berlangsung hari Sabtu (28/9/2019) ini.

China vows to retaliate as Hong Kong bill advances in US

KONFRONTASI - China has vowed to “hit back forcefully” at the United States, after the US Congress officially pushed forward legislation related to Hong Kong, a move that Beijing considers interference in its affairs.

The bill — which would support “democratic freedoms” in the Asian financial hub — is an attempt to “wantonly interfere in China’s domestic affairs” and shows the “malicious intention of some in the US Congress to contain China’s development,” China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said in a statement on Thursday.

Kereta Tergelincir di Hong Kong, 8 Orang Terluka

KONFRONTASI-Sebuah kereta api tiba-tiba tergelincir di Hong Kong hari Selasa (17/9) ini. Insiden ini mengancam terjadinya kekacauan komuter saat jam sibuk di jantung pusat finansial Asia tersebut.

Insiden seperti ini terbilang langka terjadi di jaringan kereta kota tersebut yang biasanya mulus, yang digunakan oleh hampir 6 juta orang setiap hari kerja. Kereta tujuan Mong Kong East tersebut tergelincir saat meninggalkan stasiun kereta di wilayah Kowloon.

Hong Kong’s leader to open public dialog next week

KONFRONTASI - Hong Kong’s leader says she will open direct dialog with protesters next week in an attempt to address social discontent, following some three months of unrest in the semi-autonomous Chinese city.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam said on Tuesday that she would engage directly with her governing team in a public dialog with the protesters, adding that the first session of the talks would be held next week.

She also said that the sessions would be as open as possible, with members of the public being able to sign up to attend.

Fresh anti-govt. protests, clashes cause disruption in Hong Kong

KONFRONTASI - Unrest shows no sign abating in Hong Kong, with more anti-government protests and clashes causing disruption in the semi-autonomous Chinese territory.

As the new week started, school students and alumni in Hong Kong formed human chains across the island before school early on Monday in support of the protesters, who have been calling for the administration of Chief Executive Carrie Lam to resign over the past three months.

Hong Kong's Lam due to address media after bill withdrawal

KONFRONTASI-Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam is due to address the media on Thursday, a day after she withdrew a controversial extradition bill that has triggered mass protests and plunged the Chinese territory into its worst political crisis in decades.

Lam, in a pre-recorded televised message, on Wednesday formally withdrew the bill, acceding to one of the democracy protesters' five demands.
