Man stabs 11 children in Chinese kindergarten

KONFRONTASI - A man armed with a kitchen knife has stabbed nearly a dozen children at a kindergarten in southern China, wounding at least three of them seriously.

Local authorities said on Wednesday that the man "sneaked into" the school in the southern autonomous region of Guangxi Zhuang mid-afternoon and stabbed the children before being detained at the scene by police.

State broadcaster CCTV said on social media that the assailant allegedly climbed a wall to enter the facility.

Chinese developer apologizes to Apple for faulty applications

KONFRONTASI - A Chinese app developer has apologized to US-based computer giant, Apple, for developing applications that can collect users’ private data.

The announcement came on Tuesday after Apple said it had scrapped from its online store more than 250 applications that collect personal data in violation of the company's privacy policies, AFP reported.

Crude prices fall on weak Chinese equities

KONFRONTASI - Crude prices have fallen amid increasing supply glut as well as weakening Chinese equities.

Brent crude for October fell 75 cents to $48.86 a barrel on Monday. US oil for October plunged 70 cents and was traded $45.35 per barrel.

Crude prices have declined nearly 60% since June 2014 over a global supply glut.

Also, the prices have fallen in recent weeks amid concerns over the turmoil in the world’s second largest economy, China.

Chinese stocks plunged nearly 12 percent back in August, causing turmoil in the global stock markets.

Chinese ferry with 458 aboard sinks in storm

KONFRONTASI-A passenger ship carrying 458 people, many elderly Chinese tourists, sank in the Yangtze River in a storm late on Monday and only about 20 had been rescued so far, state media said, in what could be one of China's worst disasters for years.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered that no efforts be spared in rescue work, although the official Xinhua news agency said bad weather was making rescue efforts more difficult.

Premier Li Keqiang was heading to the scene of the accident in central Hubei province, Xinhua said on Tuesday.

Chinese teenager chops off his own hand in a bid to cure his addiction to the Internet

KONFRONTASI-A Chinese teenager has been left in intensive care after trying to cure his internet addiction by cutting off his own hand.

The 19-year-old from Nantong, Jiangsu province used a kitchen knife to sever his left hand, local media reports.

The teen, known only by his last name Wang, had sneaked out of his family home to avoid alerting his parents, and chopped his hand off sitting on a public bench.

'We cannot accept what has happened. It was completely out of the blue. He was a smart boy,' his mother told reporters, according to The Telegraph.
