Amnesty: Cina Paling Ramah Terhadap Pengungsi, Indonesia?

KONFRONTASI- Cina merupakan negara paling ramah kepada pengungsi. Laporan ini berdasarkan hasil survei yang dibuat Amnesty International tentang indeks negara-negara yang paling ramah dan paling buruk kepada para pengungsi.

Urutan berikutnya, menurut hasil survei Amnesty, adalah Inggris dan Jerman. Adapun Rusia, Indonesia, dan Thailand berada di peringkat paling rendah di antara 27 negara yang menjadi subyek riset Amnesty.

China carries out crackdown on lawyers and activists

KONFRONTASI-The director of a high-profile law firm in Beijing has pleaded guilty to disorder charges, marking a 10-day government crackdown on human rights lawyers and activists.

Since July 9, more than 200 lawyers and activists have been targeted in what Amnesty International called an "unprecedented" spree of detentions and police questioning.

Director Zhou Shifeng of Fengrui Law Firm faced charges alongside nine lawyers and four staff members at his firm, which has taken on politically sensitive cases for clients like Uighur dissident Ilham Thoti.

Amnesty says Egypt using courts and jail to intimidate journalists

KONFRONTASI-Egyptian authorities are using the courts to stifle journalism, Amnesty International said on Sunday in a report that listed 18 reporters and media workers jailed and dozens more facing criminal investigations.

The New York-based rights group said several reporters have been detained for long periods without charge or trial, including an Egyptian photographer known as Shawkan who has been held for more than 600 days.

Amnesty International slams Obama over CIA torture program

KONFRONTASI - An international human rights group has criticized US President Barack Obama's administration for granting immunity to people involved in a CIA torture program that began after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Amnesty International on Tuesday accused the Obama administration of doing nothing to end a "de facto amnesty" for the perpetrators who mistreated prisoners following the release of a US Senate report about CIA torture practices.
