Trump says US sending 1,000 troops to join the 4,000 already in Poland
KONFRONTASI - US President Donald Trump says the country is sending an additional 1,000 American soldiers to Poland to join the 4,000 already there.
Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting Polish President Andrzej Duda Wednesday, Trump made the announcement, further hailing the Warsaw government for supporting the plan.
“The Polish government will build these projects at no cost to the United States,” Trump said. “We thank President Duda and the people of Poland for their partnership in advancing our common security.”
The US commander in chief also had F-35 stealth fighter jets fly over the White House for them and their wives to look on as a way to mark selling 30 of them to Poland.
“Moments ago, we witnessed that impressive flyover of this cutting-edge F-35 as it flew over the White House and actually came pretty close to a halt over the White House,” Trump said at the press conference. “And it's one of the few in the world that can do that, considered to be the greatest fighter jet in the world.”
Seeking more troops on Russia’s doorstep, Duda has been luring Trump in part by floating the idea of building a “Fort Trump” in Poland.
“Well, that's up to them. I have nothing to do with naming it,” Trump told reporters. “‘Fort Trump.’ That's all I need, ‘Fort Trump,’ and you people would have a field day with that, right?”
The US president mistakenly put the number of the soldiers to be sent to Poland at 2,000 earlier in the day.[ptv]
