International ground troops may fight against ISIL: Gen. Dempsey

KONFRONTASI - US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey says that international troops would be deployed in Iraq to fight against ISIL if necessary.

The general told reporters on Friday he may recommend boots on the ground and those forces would not necessarily American forces.

Dempsey said troops “would be comprised of Iraqis, Kurds and moderate Syrian opposition.”

On Tuesday, a US-led coalition began military campaign against ISIL with airstrikes in Syria.

Obama lacks conviction to stand up to US war machine: Grossman

KONFRONTASI - US President Barack Obama’s indecisive foreign policy is showing that he is easily manipulated and lacks the conviction or the fortitude to stand up to the establishment’s war machine, an international lawyer and political commentator says.

Barry Grossman, who is based in Indonesia’s Bali island, made the remarks on Friday during a phone interview with Press TV while commenting on Obama’s speech at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

Nine Japanese nationals have joined ISIL

KONFRONTASI - Nine Japanese nationals have allegedly joined the ISIL Takfiri militants, who are currently wreaking havoc on Iraq and Syria.

Japan’s former air force chief, Toshio Tamogami, recently met with director general of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Nissim Ben Shitrit, in the occupied Palestinian territories and was told that nine Japanese nationals have joined ISIL.

However, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said on Friday that the government has not confirmed such information.

Iran welcomes Yemen reconciliation deal

KONFRONTASI-Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has welcomed the landmark political reconciliation deal between Yemeni government and the opposition in the country.

At a Thursday meeting with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah on the sidelines of the 69th UN General Assembly meeting in New York, Zarif called on all the Yemeni political factions to exercise restraint and adhere to the provisions of their new political agreement.

3,000 Europeans joined ISIL: EU official

KONFRONTASI - The EU's anti-terrorism chief, Gilles de Kerchove, has acknowledged that more than 3,000 European citizens have joined ISIL terrorist group fighting in Syria and Iraq.

Gilles de Kerchove told the British state-run broadcaster BBC said the number includes those who have returned to Europe and those who have been killed in the two Middle Eastern states.

He also warned that the US-led airstrikes would encourage the ISIL terrorist group to launch retaliatory attacks on Europe.

American activists protest recent US bombings in Syria, Iraq

KONFRONTASI - Dozens of American activists have gathered in front of the White House to condemn President Barack Obama’s bombing campaign against ISIL in Syria and Iraq.

The protesters are angry about Washington’s policy of arming and training insurgents in Syria to fight ISIL Takfiri terrorists on the ground.

US Secretary of State John Kerry announced an additional $40 million in non-lethal aid to help take on the terror group.

The activists said the current policy by the Obama administration is disastrous.

A Conversation With an Islamic State Terrorist: We Will ‘Make Some Attacks in New York Soon’

An Islamic State terrorist vowed in an exclusive interview with VICE News that the militant group is planning attacks in New York City “soon.”

Farah Shirdon, also known as Abu Usamah Somali, is a Canadian citizen who left his native country to fight with the Islamic State in Iraq. He is seen in a recent propaganda video burning his passport and promising to destroy the U.S. and Canada.

“[We] will make some attacks in New York soon,” he told VICE News. “A lot of brothers there are mobilizing right now. … Mobilizing for a brilliant attack, my friend.”

US praises Saudi Arabia, UAE for bombing ISIL targets in Syria

KONFRONTASI - The US military has announced that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates played the leading role in the bombing campaign against ISIL targets in Syria.

Pentagon’s spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said on Thursday that the two Arab states dropped more bombs than American warplanes, adding that they sent 10 jets to join six US aircraft.

“Largely that comes from the fact that the bombs they were dropping were of greater weight,” he said.

FBI identifies masked ISIL executioner

KONFRONTASI - FBI Director James Comey says the US has identified the ISIL terrorist who beheaded two American journalists and one British aid worker.

Comey, however, refused to name the terrorist or his nationality, the Associated Press reported on Thursday.

He also did not mention whether the United States believes the suspect actually carried out the killings himself.
